Zazzle Beginner’s Guide to SEO: Part V

An Important Link

Last week, I talked about how important it is that your site is SEO friendly, making it more likely to rank well within the various search engines. In this week’s edition of my Zazzle Media Beginner’s Guide to SEO, I’m going to discuss how important the links of your website are in a successful site.

While the architecture is a very important part – as you’ll recall from last week’s article I mentioned the ‘crawlers’ that try to work their way around your site, with their success reflecting in your ranking – and similarly, my colleague previously talked about how to write the best possible SEO content – SEO Articles, The Easy Way.

But the content and structure of the site are just two of the three vital parts of an SEO friendly website. The main contributor is the links associated with the site, both internally and externally. More

A Zazzle Beginner’s Guide To SEO

SEOWelcome to the first part of my beginner’s guide to SEO. I joined Zazzle Media this summer and a lot of the terms might as well have been another language. However, with a lot of my “free time” spent with my nose in a book or searching through the Internet to get up to speed, I’ve worked out (roughly) what it is that I’m meant to be doing.

This is my guide for people who, like me, have no idea what some of the terms associated with SEO mean and I hope this clears up any confusion for you. Keep checking back to the Zazzle Media blog for the next installment of my beginner’s guide. More

The Cornerstone of Any Website

SEOIf you ever sit down and discuss a business plan with webmasters or business operators, you will usually find out pretty early on that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is quite a key topic of the conversation.

SEO is the process of maximizing the potential of the content and structure of your website, making it more likely to be found when specific keywords are entered into a search engine. More

The Importance Of On-Page SEO

SEOAs we all know, SEO is one of those concepts that many people do not understand. This means that we in the business have the job of explaining what exactly we do to pretty much everyone who asks: usually other businesses who are missing out on fantastic opportunities for profit increase simply because they do not know of, or use, SEO.

SEO Platforms Can Save 40% of A Professional’s Day

American SEO company Conductor released the findings of their latest research this week, entitled “The Unoptimized SEO: How Manual Tasks Sabotage the Potential of Natural Search Marketers,” with some startling findings for SEO professionals.

Conductor compared the time investment needed for tasks with an SEO platform against traditional manual toolsets, and revealed that 40% of the day in the life of an SEO professional is spent carrying out time-sapping, mundane, repetitive task. It is the first time that a study has put into figures the amount of time that technology solutions can save in the profession. More

Poison SEO Attacks Continue

It can be tricky to be an SEO copywriter, especially with many people out there continuing to give our industry a bad name by participating in activities that would make Patrick Bateman turn faint and steady himself.  Unfortunately, dodgy search engine optimisation tactics continue with news that yet another poison attack has recently duped over 100 million web users.

The campaign originated from a blackhat SEO firm (read: an evil, evil SEO firm) who took advantage of the Google image search to send users in the direction of malicious landing pages by taking the guise of an anti-virus download.  In the process it generate nearly 300 million hits, and has apparently compromised nearly 5,000 servers in the process. Bin Laden causes SEO Poison Influx

Whilst the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death was welcomed by many, it’s unfortunate to state that certain rather sad individuals are using this as an excuse to participate in what’s known as ‘SEO Poisoning.’

A death video scam is currently making waves online, offering recipients the chance to watch a video that claims to show ‘banned video footage of Osama Bin Laden being killed.’  Whilst the outlandish claims are unlikely to fool many, those who do click through will simply spread the link as well as being greeted with a typical online ‘survey’, which will earn the company distributing money for each survey that’s completed. URL Quality ‘Vital For SEO’

Since the Google ‘Panda’ update, there has been a settling-in period for those of us in the industry, primarily to see how much of a difference (and what sort of difference) it would have on the day-to-day tasks of search engine optimisation. Latest research has indicated that the quality of website URLs could be becoming a more and more important part of the Google algorithm.

Speaking on behalf of AudetteMedia, president Adam Audette has emphasised the importance of high quality URLs, noting that ‘The new SEO, at least as far as Panda is concerned, is about pushing your best quality stuff and the complete removal of low-quality or overhead pages from the indexes.’

Whilst previous tactics from some companies may have been focused on creating additional but low quality URLs in order to increase the amount of backlinks generated to the main sites. However, it seems that increased focus on the quality of the lead pages is likely to become more and more important.

According to Google’s own official blog, the new algorithm means that the search engine is able to be ‘very accurate’ in it’s detection of how high quality various websites are. This is without doubt good news for those of us who continue to highlight the importance of quality in search engine optimisation!

The ASA Comes To The Web

On March 1st, the Advertising Standards Agency extended their remit to cover online marketing communications, meaning that various elements of SEO – links to other sites, copy and visible meta data – could end up falling under their jurisdiction.  So what would we here at Zazzle want them to get rid of?

SEO Myths That Need To Be Stopped

Because of the inherent mystery surrounding SEO and the fact that no-one is 100% sure as to what the Google algorithms are (anyone who says they do is being less than truthful, to say the least) it is inevitable that myths are going to pop up around the industry.  However, not only are some of them complete rubbish, they create the risk of a less aware SEO copywriter following them!  That’s why Zazzle Media, SEO Peterborough experts, have released this guide of the top five myths that must be debunked.  Feel free to ignore anyone who says the following:
